A Monroe County grand jury has indicted the driver of a landscaping vehicle involved in a fatal crash in Wheatland in July. According to court documents, 55 year old John Ariano was indicted on vehicular manslaughter, driving while ability impaired by drugs and driving while ability impaired by the combined influence of drugs or alcohol. Monroe County Sheriff’s Deputies say Ariano was driving on Wheatland Center Road when he went through a stop sign and hit a minivan on North Road. The driver of the minivan – 69 year old John Blair – was pronounced dead at the scene.

Meanwhile, Police say Ariano told them he ran the stop sign because he was distracted. He was originally ticketed for failure to stop at a stop sign.

122811: News Hound Round Up

The Webster teenager facing murder and arson charges was arraigned yesterday. 15 year old Michael Pilato is accused of setting fire to his family’s home in Webster earlier this month. He’s charged with six counts of second degree murder, two counts of attempted second degree murder and one count of arson. According to court documents Pilato admitted to police that he poured gasoline in his Cardile Drive home and started a fire with the intention of killing his family. Michael’s father, Carmen and his two brothers Peter and Joshua died in the blaze.

Meanwhile, in court yesterday defense attorney Andre Vitale said his client is still a very confused young man. Pilato is being held without bail in a juvenile detention facility. His defense attorney expects the case will go to trial.

A Batavia woman is facing assault charges after police say she punched a Walmart greeter on Christmas Eve. The greeter – a 70 year old woman – suffered a fractured face and is now recovering at home. 26 year old Jacquetta Simmons has been charged with two counts of second degree assault in connection with the incident. Police have not said what motivated the attack.

A 23 year old Rochester man was shot in the upper body last night and transported to Strong Memorial Hospital for treatment of what officers on the scene described as life-threatening injuries. Authorities say the shooting took place around 10 o’clock last night on Avenue D near Hoff Street, between Joseph and Hudson Avenues. Police are searching for suspects and say they also used a K-9 unit to search the scene for evidence.

Authorities are investigating a possible home invasion robbery that took place last night on Parsells Avenue near Culver Road. Officials say the robbery took place at 556 Parsells Avenue around 11 o’clock which left two victims in the hospital. One 47 year old man was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound to the upper body. Authorities say he’s being treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The second victim suffered lacerations and was transported to Rochester General Hospital for treatment.
